BE THE FIRST to call Reta at (800) 852-8199 tell her where to find the 20 year mistake in the August newsletter and claim a Free $30 UHF TV antenna.

POWER OUTAGE
David Aiken

Two months ago, Radio Communications of Ohio donated a 31 KW diesel generator to TV-39. The generator has only 340 hours of running time on its hour meter and is in excellent condition. The station started buying the equipment needed to transfer the building’s electrical service back and forth between Ohio Edison’s lines and the generator. It was expected that the generator would be operational in July but seemingly more pressing problems kept pushing back the project start date.

On Monday, August 14 at 9:00 AM, there was a planning meeting to budget man-hours for station projects. The fact that Ohio Edison service seldom fails resulted in the generator project being assigned a low priority.

Two hours later an O.E. substation failed. Electric crews reset it but it tripped again. Line crews then tried to transfer service to another substation and that substation then tripped leaving half of Marion without electric power.

The generator transfer switch had not been installed so the TV-39 crew could do nothing more than run an extension cord from the generator to a coffeepot. They then sat in the dark answering the massive number of phone calls from people wanting to know why TV-39 was off the air. Power was finally restored at 4:45 PM. The generator project was then moved to the top of the project list and installation completed on Friday Aug. 18. TV-39 is now ready for the next power outage.
