CHRISTIAN BROADCASTER

Volume 2 Issue 35 April 2001

Lord’s Prayer carved from wood.

Rev. Ron Webster shown above spent 93 hours carving this beautiful carving of the Lord’s prayer which now hangs on the wall in Studio A at TV39. This is truly something you have to see to believe. People are simply amazed when they see it. This is the fourth he has carved. The other three hang in local churches.

Thank you Ron for the wonderful gift.

COACB TRANSMITTER?

The COACB has been looking at the cost of replacing two more of its transmitters this year. New solid state 1- kW transmitters costs about $30,000 each.

Most modern UHF transmitters are really quite simple and consist only of an on-channel modulator and a series of amplifier sub-assemblies along with filtering, metering, power supplies and control circuit. The total cost of these sub-assemblies is about $19,000. The only thing that prevents stations from buying sub-assemblies and constructing their own transmitters is that transmitters must be type accepted by the FCC.

To receive type acceptance, a transmitter must be constructed, and a service manual written for that transmitter. The transmitter and its service manual must be sent to a FCC approved Lab for testing and certification. The testing and legal fees to type accept a transmitter are usually about $5,000 - $10,000 but once the type accepted number has been issued by the FCC that transmitter can then be cloned any number of times as long as each clone is identical to the original.

TELETHONS A GREAT SUCCESS

By the time the telethon was over there were a lot of very tired volunteers but over $24,000 had been raised. In fact most of the pledges have already been collected and some new equipment is being ordered for each station.

Viewership during this telethon probably set several new records because even two weeks after the telethon, everywhere we go people still stop us to tell how much fun they had watching the telethon auctions. We wish to thank all that made this telethon such a great success.

PROJECT STATUS

AUTOMATED BROADCAST SYSTEM

Delaware volunteers have worked hard to raise money toward installing a state-of-the-art automated broadcast system for TV-56. The ideal system is a video server with massive hard drives for program storage, The system must also accepts VCR, and Satellite feeds as well as accept program downloads directly from an internet feed. A system made by TVONE can do everything needed except the Internet communications. We are currently awaiting word from their factory in Germany about when this option will be available. This project will cost about $3,000.00 and is expected to be completed in May.

LANDSCAPE PROJECT

The women at TV39 are working hard to raise money for their landscaping and beautification project. The project is expected to cost $2,200. They have raised $570.00.

NONLINEAR EDITING EXPANSION

A second nonlinear editing system has been bought and is expected to be operational by the time you receive this newsletter. Training of volunteers to operate this new system is expected to start about April 15. To sign up for classes on nonlinear editing, please call (740) 383-1794.

That pledge can be paid either as a lump sum, or by monthly payments. If you would like to be a member of the TV-56 club, the TV-48 club or the TV-39 club, contact Reta at 1-800-852-8199, and tell her the correct spelling of your name and which station you wish to support.
