CHANGES TO CONTROL ROOM AT TV39

This is the new control room at TV39. It was built through the combined efforts of many people. Ben Kalb and David Aiken worked out the design and layout using a computer aided drafting system. Harold and Judy Stoner built the console; the window was made and installed by Leo Gilliam. Rick Smith, Tim Bush, and Leo Gilliam installed a new sound system. Betty Syck and Terry Orlett cleaned up the construction debris. The switcher, audio system, and monitors were purchased through grant money provided by Karl Kalb.
DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN
The COACB was very excited to learn that John G. Hoffman was selected as a Marion county distinguished citizen for the year of 2001. Every year a board consisting of representatives from the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, The Marion Star, GTE, and Radio Station WDIF meets to sort through all those nominated. Although almost 80 years old, John is always trying to see who he can help. In addition to hosting the Public Affairs program, John is a Big Brother, a hard worker in his church, a visitor to nursing homes, and a person always ready to share a joke or play his harmonica. John even videotapes city council meetings so that those in hospitals and nursing homes can keep up with things going on in their community. Yes John is truly a DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN!
** Editors Note** Pray for Johns speedy recovery. John became ill and was transferred to Riverside where he remains as this newsletter goes to press.
STORIES FROM MY RELATIVES
JOHN G. HOFFMAN
My uncle Blimp, my slightly rotund uncle lived across the street from a bakery. One day he saw a little boy walk by. The baker came out and hit the boy over the head with a loaf of bread. The next day, the same thing happened, the baker came out and hit the little boy over the head with a loaf of bread. This went on for about two weeks. Then, one day, the little boy came by; the baker came out and hit the boy over the head with a chocolate cake. Uncle Blimp couldnt understand this, so he went over to talk with the baker. "Sir," he said, "For the past two weeks I have seen a little boy come by and you always came out and hit him over the head with a loaf of bread. Whats all of this about?"
The baker smiled and replied, "Thats my son on the way to school. His mother calls and tells me the boy has been nasty to her, so, when he comes by, I hit him over the head with a loaf of bread to let him know he is being punished."
Uncle Blimp replied. "I can understand that, but why today did you hit him over the head with a chocolate cake?" The baker smiled and replied, "Thats very simple. Today is his birthday."

VITAL NEED
TV-39 has a vital need. The tube in the main transmitter is beginning to fail, and we need to raise funds to upgrade to a solid state transmitter. Tubes for the current transmitter cost about $5,000 each and last only 12 to16 months. We are currently about $10,000 away from being able to upgrade to solid state technology. On August 12, we will have a special praise service from 1-7 PM at TV-39 to raise money for this needed upgrade. Mark your calendars for this special service and believe with us for a miracle!
